MSBOA Solo & Ensemble provides students with opportunities to perform solos or small ensembles with fellow students and receive a rating from a qualified judge. The given ratings range from 1 to 5 (1 being the highest). You can receive "NR" which is no rating for not meeting the requirements of the event.
There are fees associated with Solo & Ensemble. See the director for exact fees.
Requirements are:
The music performed MUST be at least TWO MINUTES in length.
You must perform the music with the instrumentation listed (if it calls for two trumpets, you must use two trumpets and not one trumpet and one baritone).
You must provide the judge an ORIGINAL (not photo copied) score for the music to be performed. This score must be numbered (each measure).
You may opt to not play repeats, but you can not add any repeats.
You should dress nice (this will not hurt your rating, but does make you look more professional!)
Your performance room and time will be available from your band director a week or so before the event. The room will be labeled something like P009 - which is performance room 9. The warm-up room (would be W009 - or warm-up room 9).
REPORT TO THE WARM-UP ROOM AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR PERFORMANCE TIME. ALLOW TIME FOR BAD WEATHER - JUST IN CASE.
