The Symphonic Band (3rd period all three trimesters) is the top performing band at Truman.

It is open by permission of the director only. Students in 10th, 11th & 12th grades are eligible. On occasion 9th graders are permitted to join, but only by permission of the director and in most cases after at least one semester of Varsity Band.
This band participates in MSBOA band festival, graduation, homecoming & farewell assemblies, and for other events. The music performed in this group ranges from grade 3 to 6.
In additional to performing, this band will focus on developing knowledge of music theory. Students who participate and achieve in the Symphonic Band will have the tools necessary to take, and accel at a 100 level music theory class in college in addition to being prepared for any college performance based class.
Class focus:
developing into a quality musician
performing quality music
developing music theory knowledge (including: time signatures, scales, chords, intervals, & key signatures)
Proper Concert Attire:
Gentlemen: Black dress pants, black dress socks, black dress shoes, white button-up shirt, black bow tie, black uniform jacket (provided by the school)
Ladies: Black dress shoes, black dress socks or nylons, Symphonic Band Dress (must be purchased in advance)
