The Jazz Band (4th period all three trimesters) is a daily class. Standard jazz instruments allowed in jazz band include: Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Bass, Guitar, Drums, Vibraphone. Flute, clarinet, baritone and tuba may be allowed at the directors discretion. The is a performance based class with heavy emphasis on jazz music theory and learning to improvise.
Class focus:
Improvisation - lots of improvisation!
understanding and performing traditional & modern jazz styles
understanding and applying jazz theory
concerts (held during the 3rd trimester and possibly the 2nd trimester too!)
Proper Concert Attire:
Jazz Formal (Guys: suits with neck tie / Ladies: long dress or suit with neck tie)
